Why Basel is the ideal event location
Basel is a city rich in tradition and a top international destination for culture, exhibitions, markets and events. Congresses on a wide array of topics in the areas of business, politics and life sciences are held in Basel each year. The Ministers’ Council Conference in December 2014 was one of the successful congresses with an international reach held at the Congress Center Basel in conjunction with Switzerland’s chairmanship of the OSCE. Thanks to muba, Switzerland’s largest consumer exhibition, Baselworld, one of the most important trade fairs in the watch and jewellery industry, and Art Basel, the world’s leading art exhibition, Basel is also an internationally renowned exhibition destination. In addition to its central location, this city on the Rhine offers ideal transportation connections and outstanding infrastructure as well as numerous possibilities for staging large-scale international events.
As a host of international sporting events, the city of Basel stands out thanks to its vast experience in realising large international events and the smooth communication among its well-coordinated state agencies. With thousands of fans cheering them on, the elite of the sporting world go head to head in this city on the Rhine, whether on ice at the Men’s Curling World Championships in 2012 and 2016, on the grass at the UEFA Euro 2008 and the 2016 EuroLeague Final, or in the stadium at the 2013 Indoor Cycling World Championships and the Badminton Team and U15 European Championships in 2014. In 2019, Basel will once again welcome the world’s top athletes in badminton and indoor cycling. In August 2019, the renovated and modernised St. Jakobshalle will host the Badminton World Championships and the Para-Badminton World Championships, and the Indoor Cycling World Championships will take place at the beginning of December 2019.
